Experiential Message Architecture (EMA)

Most messaging focuses on

what you say.

EMA focuses on

how people experience

what you say.

Using visual structure, rhythm,

and emphasis

drawn from A Cappella Poetry,

I architect brand messaging

for impact and retention.

The Problem

We all want to be heard.

People barely read.

Whatever is on your page needs to land. Not just the message, but the idea.

EMA treats text as architecture — using line breaks, white space, and the musicality of language, to create messaging that sticks.

How EMA Works

EMA is rooted in A Cappella Poetry principles, where visual structure on the page guides breath, rhythm, and emphasis.

The same techniques that make spoken word poetry experiential can make brand messaging clearer and more impactful.

This isn't about dumbing down or oversimplifying.

It's about making complex ideas accessible without losing depth.

I’m a drifter. My mind looks like a twister of whispers.

Traditional Fomatting

I’m a drifter.

My mind looks like

a twister

of whispers.

A Cappella Poetry (EMA applied):

Same words. Structured for experience. Line breaks create rhythm, white space creates breath, structure creates emphasis.

Where EMA Creates Value

EMA is designed for organizations and creative leaders who want their ideas to be understood, felt, and remembered.

EMA is especially useful for:

  • Mission-driven organizations communicating complex ideas, programs, or impact

  • Startups and growing brands refining their positioning and core message

  • Creative studios and agencies seeking messaging with greater depth, nuance, and distinction

  • Organizations navigating complexity or change and needing to make important ideas clearer without flattening them

  • Brands whose voice matters and want their messaging to feel as intentional as their work

EMA Applied

We took standard public messaging and reimagined it through Experiential Message Architecture.

B2B SaaS Product Positioning

BEFORE

Opal is project management software actually built for marketers – with features that matter to marketers.

Not a one-size-fits-all project tool and not a ticketing system with shoehorned-in marketing features. Finally…marketers have a platform that is truly their own.

AFTER (EMA Applied)

Project management software

built for marketers.

Not adapted from generic tools.

Not a ticketing system

with marketing features bolted on.

Built for you—

features that matter,

workflows that make sense.

Example transformation (not a client project): B2B SAAS defensive positioning transformed into confident clarity through structure and emphasis.

EMA in Practice: ADSS Presents: Genesis

Experiential Message Architecture is not limited to marketing or organizational messaging. It can shape how stories, ideas, identities, and experiences are communicated.

ADSS Presents: Genesis is an experiential memoir that combines personal storytelling, systemic analysis, poetry, and reflection. The work explores identity, education, family, addiction, creativity, and the journey that led to the creation of ADSS.

The following excerpts demonstrate how language can move beyond delivering information to shape how meaning is encountered.

A Marijuana Movie (Excerpt)

These days, they got apps for that. But back then?

I had weed. And a couple of medications from my psychiatrist.

I became a chemist of concoctions for chaos.

What EMA is doing: Uses rhythm, contrast, humor, and metaphor to transform a personal coping pattern into an experience the reader can recognize and feel.

Systems.edu(Excerpt)

I grew up on a healthy diet of eggshells.

At school, I learned a different type of survival. One where the stakes were life and death for a black boy. And my parents treated school as such.

If there’s one thing I picked up on early in my education, it was to never be viewed as dumb and black.

That’s a death sentence.

What EMA is doing: Uses contrast and escalating stakes to move from family fear to the racialized pressures of school, revealing how identity became a matter of survival.
